Herb and Print-making Class

Wednesday, November 20, 2024 * 5:15-8:30pm * Fireweed Community Woodshop

At the beginning of evergreen season, artist Jessie Merriam and I are offering an evening-long deep dive into Cedar- using print-making, herbal knowledge, and history as tools for getting to know the many species who share this name (with a focus on our local Eastern White Cedar / Thuja occidentalis).

I'll share what I know about the history and botany of the plant, and we'll discuss medicinal, material, and spiritual uses. Then Jessie will lead us in creating our own woodblock prints honoring this sturdy, and pest-resistant beauty.

We'll have time while carving for more conversation about Cedar!

Registration opens soon on the Fireweed website: https://fireweedwoodshop.org/Classes.

Join me for a three-class introduction to crafting your own herbal medicine. We’ll cover the basics of all the different ways medicinal plants are crafted for human use; get introductions/refreshers on a few easy-to-use herbs; and craft both a tincture and an herbal salve to take home.

Each 1.5 hour class will include some talking and some hands-on time. This series is created for both beginners and anyone looking for a refresher. We will harvest and use fresh plant material, weather-permitting.

The ask for this series is $50-150 sliding scale, which includes all supplies. Please reach out if you would like to attend but need another arrangement.

Please use this form to sign up, or reach out if you have any questions!

Immune Support, Nervous System Support, Community, Kinship

Sunday, September 15th, 2024 ~ 4:00-6:00pm ~ Anam Cara House (South Minneapolis)

There are many reasons here and now to feel stress, anxiety and sometimes despair. The body strives for a precious balance, and all the stressors - interpersonal / financial / ecological / political - threaten that balance. The good news is that we still live in a thriving green world, and the plant world shares their medicine with us generously!

This class will be one-part practical plant knowledge / one part-meditation on some of the small ways we can practice turning to herbal medicine for balance. Everyone is welcome to come as they are, and we will all be invited to reflect on what help we might need in the coming months, and where we might ask for it. There will be a discussion of herbs that are useful specifically for immune system and nervous system support, and we’ll cover some other, easy-to-integrate self- and community-care strategies, too.

The ask for this class is $20-60 sliding scale. Please pay at the time of registration. Reach out if you would like to attend but need a different payment arrangement or if you have any questions.
